Belgacom\u00a0II<\/i><\/b> then<\/span> Gitana\u00a011<\/i><\/b> then<\/span> Ultim\u2019Emotion<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Belgacom II<\/span><\/i> was commissioned for <\/span>Jean-Luc N\u00e9lias<\/b>. She was VPLP\u2019s first 60\u2019 ORMA to be designed using a <\/span>hull test tank<\/b>, in particular for the development of her floats. Sold to the Gitana Team in 2004, she was renamed <\/span>Gitana\u00a011<\/span><\/i> and achieved a certain maturity thanks to the improvements made by Baron Benjamin de Rothschild\u2019s team. By slightly raising her floats, reducing her beam and carrying out various modifications to her rudders, central hull and cockpit, the team transformed her into a <\/span>thoroughbred for solo, offshore racing<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fred Le Peutrec, Lo\u00efck Peyron and Lionel Lemonchois took turns at the helm, with Lemonchois entering her in the<\/span> 2006 Route du Rhum<\/b>. \u201cMy boat doesn\u2019t sail, she flies!\u201d claimed the latter, finishing much earlier than expected. Even he seemed surprised by her performance. With <\/span>Gitana\u00a011,<\/span><\/i> he smashed Laurent Bourgnon\u2019s record by more than four days, taking just seven days and seventeen hours to complete the course.
