Safran<\/i><\/b> then<\/span> Groupe Qu\u00e9guiner<\/i><\/b> then<\/span> Monin<\/i><\/b> then<\/span> MACSF<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The first boat produced by the <\/span>VPLP and Guillaume Verdier collaboration<\/b>, <\/span>Safran<\/span><\/i> is the fruit of the Vannes-based architect\u2019s two decades designing ocean-going multihull sailing boats and Verdier\u2019s experience acquired at the Finot-Conq firm. <\/span>Safran<\/span><\/i> is remarkable for her <\/span>powerful hard-chined hull<\/b>, her mast stepped further aft to promote a more slender sail plan, her curved dagger boards, and her deck layout which draws inspiration from the latest innovations appearing on ocean-going trimarans.<\/span><\/p>\n

Safran<\/span><\/i> features numerous technical and technological advances, such as a mast that was specially designed for the boat, a carbon-fibre keel, and carefully positioned ballast tanks, the latter the result of the fruitful collaboration between the architects and skipper <\/span>Marc Guillemot<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

After a successful run of podium places \u2013 notably in the Vend\u00e9e Globe and the Route du Rhum \u2013 and victory in the 2009 Transat Jacques Vabre, <\/span>Safran<\/span><\/i> was sold in late 2014 to <\/span>Yann Eli\u00e8s<\/b> who changed her name to <\/span>Qu\u00e9guiner-Leuc\u00e9mie Espoir<\/span><\/i>. Her new owner replaced her rudders, daggerboards and keel, and modified her ballast tanks. The successes continued with <\/span>5th place in the 2016\u201317 Vend\u00e9e Globe<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Subsequently bought by Alain Gautier and skippered by <\/span>Isabelle Joschke<\/b>, she was fitted with foils in 2019 in preparation for the 2020 Vend\u00e9e Globe. <\/span>MACSF<\/span><\/i> more than lived up to the performance expected of her new set-up, however her skipper was forced to retire from the race after rounding Cape Horn.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
